Fourth hop of the series of the Deadwood Social Club was given last evening at Kiemer Hall, and as usual, the floor was completely filled. The enjoyment was so great that it was the general remark that the evening was too short by far. One pleasant feature of these socials is the fact of visitors from adjoining cities and camps participating, and last evening was not an exception to the rule. Quite a number of couples from Lead and Central were in attendance just as well as though they resided in the metropolis. The club will give two more of the regular series, and probably end the winter enjoyment with a masquerade, or pillow case party, about the last of March or first of April.

Deadwood social club will give their fifth hop this evening at Kiemer hall. The members are looking forward to it with much pleasure, always have and always will, so long as they last. The committee wish us to state that there have been some fraudulent invitations issued by parties not members of the club, and that they will not be accepted at the door. The club expects to give a masquerade party in about a month, to close the series.

March 5, 1884
Deadwood Social Club gave their last party on Thursday night, under the original assessment. This Club has been very satisfactorily conducted under the executive committee this season, and the subscribers all feel well satisfied with the result, so much so that it is altogether likely that there will be two more parties given. The idea of the committee is to give one more party and then close the season with a grand masquerade, which if done will be one of the finest affairs of the kind ever given in the Hills. By all means give two more dances.

Private social masquerade party was given last evening at the Phoenix hall, at which about thirty couples, half of which were maskers, enjoyed themselves until the wee small hours. Skill’s quadrille band led off with the grand march at 9:30, after which the maskers occupied the floor until 11:30, when masks off revealed the following persons, representing as follows: Mrs. Frank J. Washabaugh, Lady of Ye Olden Time, dress black. Mrs. D.A. McPherson, Soubrette to Court of France, time of Louis XVI, color gray. Mrs. J.R. Wilson and Mrs. Roberts, Sisters of Mercy black and white. Mrs. F.W. Hamilton, Daughter of the Regiment colors and drum attachment. Miss Gillette, Pocahontas buckskin suit, very tasty. Miss Irene Cushman, Snow. Miss Lu Kingsley, Tambourine Girl. Miss Maud Warner, Music. John R. Wilson, Monk. Professor Hirschfeld, Nurse Girl. Frank J. Washabaugh, William Penn. Fred Evans Jr., Highlander. E.A. Hoyt, Romeo. F.W. Hamilton, manila man. Dr. L.F. Babcock, court dress. W.S. Warner, Irish gentleman; and among them Mongolians. Supper was served at 12, and certainly one of the most magnificent spreads ever sat down to was then enjoyed, after which the entire company, fancy dress and otherwise, participated in the dance until upon adjournment all pronounced it a grand success and wished for more of the same.
